Since 2022 Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Indonesia Office (FES) in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) of the Republic of Indonesia is organizing a programme specifically for young Indonesians entitled Young Progressive Academy (YPA). The YPA programme aims at empowering young leaders, including those from marginalized communities and vulnerable groups in Indonesia and provides a progressive learning space for Indonesian youth aged between 20 and 30 years YPA brings together individuals from various backgrounds in terms of organization, profession, education and community.
In a participatory and enabling learning environment, YPA strives to create a democratic, equitable and inclusive space for Indonesian youths to enhance their knowledge and perspectives on topics that are relevant for them. These topics include for example Youth in Indonesia, Active Citizenship, Culture and Nation, Climate Change and Just Transition, Gender Justice and Tolerance. The YPA training programme combines offline and online modules organised between October 2024-February 2025. It equips young leaders with a comprehensive set of leadership skills and knowledge to support their initiatives and projects, either on community or national level thereby promoting team-oriented leadership for democratic and participatory processes in a democratic society. YPA hopes to inspire and enable the participants to actively shape their own, their generation´s and their country´s future.
The curriculum addresses both skills and knowledge development as well as the transfer of these skills into practical work or programmes. All sessions are based on inputs from renowned experts from academia, think tanks, government and civil society organisations and give the opportunity to discuss with them the issues from a youth perspective. Young professionals working in government, non-government organizations, student and civil society leaders andactivists engaged in community based or volunteer programmesin Indonesia can join the training program. Diversity among the participants and representation of various regions and cultures are encouraged by YPA. Hence, applicants from various backgrounds (geographical location, sex, ethnic and religious groups in Indonesia) are encouraged to apply.
All applications are subject to the selection process of YPA and applicants will be duly informed about the selection steps after their application has been sent in. For more information regarding the application process please download the information flyer here.
Application Deadline: All application documents should be submitted to FES through email youngprogressive.id(at)fes.de not later than 25 August 2024 (Monday), 11:59PM. Incomplete applications will not qualify for the selection process.
Many YPA graduates so far have taken up positions in various organisations in Indonesia after completing the programme. Currently, the YPA Alumni Network is established to share knowledge and resources to advocate for their projects or joint programmes, access government programmes with support from Kemenko PMK and share their best practice experiences. YPA Alumni are free to develop and implement their activities independently of FES and Kemenko PMK. Therefore, views and actions of the YPA Alumni Network do not necessarily reflect the position of FES Indonesia or Kemenko PMK.
