Young Progressive Academy (YPA) and YPA Alumni

The curriculum addresses both skills and knowledge development as well as the transfer of these skills into practical work or programmes. All sessions are based on inputs from renowned experts from academia, think tanks, government and civil society organisations and give the opportunity to discuss with them the issues from a youth perspective.

Block I (Offline – Workshop): Becoming an Active Citizen in the Indonesian Democracy

• Sessions include topics like Democracy and the Nation, Indonesian Young Generation: Identity, Diversity and Tolerance, Political Economy, Presentation and Rhetorical Skills

Block II (Online – Evening classes): Indonesia's Way Towards an Inclusive Society

• Sessions include topics like Gender Equality, Social Protection and Inclusivity, Just Transition in the Era of Climate Change and Digitalization, Being Indonesian in the Global Society, Project Management 

Block III Phase of Preparing Mini Projects

Block IV (Offline – Workshop): Active and Meaningful Leadership

• Sessions include topics like Negotiating Skills, Community based project excursion, Interactive Project Presentations and Best Practices For Volunteer Projects

Young professionals working in government, non-government organizations, student and civil society leaders and activists engaged in community based or volunteer programmes in Indonesia can join the training program. Diversity among the participants and representation of various regions and cultures are encouraged by YPA. Hence, applicants from various backgrounds (geographical location, sex, ethnic and religious groups in Indonesia) are encouraged to apply with the following documents: 

• YPA Application Form
• Copy of original ID card/passport as proof of Indonesian nationality and age range of 20-30;
• Curriculum Vitae (CV);
• Motivational Letter (300-500 words)

    • Why do I want to be part of the YPA?
    • What background and social commitment do I bring to the YPA?
    • What goals and visions do I want to achieve through my participation in the YPA?
  • Motivation Letter Writing Requirements
    • Reflect on your personal experiences and aspirations. Show how your background and social commitments align with YPA's goals. Highlight your previous achievements, skills and involvement in social or community activities.
    • Clearly write down your goals and vision for the future. Explain how being part of YPA will help you achieve those goals.
    • Letters should be well-written, have a clear structure, and specifically answer the given question. Focus on information relevant to your application to YPA.
    • Make sure the motivation letter is entirely your own work. Plagiarism or use of Chat GPT technology or similar AI tools is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule will result in the cancellation of your application.
    • Double check your letter carefully before submitting it. Make sure the final version you upload is free of grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
• Voluntary/Optional: Personalised introduction video (2-3 minutes);
• Copy of bachelor’s degree in any discipline or proof from the university of undergoing the final year of study.
  Special consideration will be given to applicants holding no bachelor’s degree but presenting proof of volunteer or professional engagement in socio-ecological and socio-economic projects.
• Recommendation letter either from national or local government Members of the House of Representatives (national or local level/DPR or DPRD), CEOs/Senior Management in companies, civil society organisations, media, or university representatives (Lecturers, Head of Department, Dean or Rector) acknowledging the candidate’s contribution to communities and her or his potential as a future leader. The Recommendation letter also serves as proof of the applicant’s active employment/membership as official of a government institution, member of a community empowerment institution/CSO, member of a political party, journalist or chairman of a student body.

Application Deadline: All application documents should be submitted to FES by email at youngprogressive.id(at)fes.de no later than the registration closing date. Incomplete applications will not qualify for the selection process.

• Interview of potential participants: 19 – 23 October 2026
• Announcement of selected YPA Batch 5 participants: 4 November 2026
• Implementation of the Block I YPA Batch 5: 24 – 28 November 2026
• Implementation of the Block II-III YPA Batch 5: December 2026 – March 2027
• Implementation of the Block IV YPA Batch 5: April 2027

The entire registration process and the implementation of YPA activities are FREE of charge.

Many YPA graduates so far have taken up positions in various organisations in Indonesia after completing the programme. Currently, the YPA Alumni Network is established to share knowledge and resources to advocate for their projects or joint programmes, access government programmes with support from Kemenko PMK and share their best practice experiences. YPA Alumni are free to develop and implement their activities independently of FES and Kemenko PMK. Therefore, views and actions of the YPA Alumni Network do not necessarily reflect the position of FES Indonesia or Kemenko PMK.
