FGD: Developing and Nurturing Maritime Culture in Indonesia, 7-8 November 2016

Together with the Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture (PMK) and the KENTA Institute FES Indonesia organized a dialogue on: Developing and Nurturing Maritime Culture in Indonesia on November 7th and 8th 2016 in Jakarta.

Together with the Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture (PMK) and the KENTA Institute FES Indonesia organized a dialogue on: Developing and Nurturing Maritime Culture in Indonesia on November 7th and 8th 2016 in Jakarta.

Distinguished participants have been among others; representatives of the Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture, the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the Ministries of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, of CSIS, the LIPI Institute, the Namarin Institute, representatives of civil society, journalists and the maritime economy.

Based on the understanding that the Maritime Axis represents a National Vision as well as a development agenda to rebuild the country´s maritime culture, define a maritime identity and boost the economy the two days Focus Group Discussion covered the following topics: Establishing Indonesia as a Maritime Nation and Enhancing Its Role in the 21st Century Asia  Pacific; Strengthening Indonesia’s Maritime industry by empowering Maritime Business and Fishermen Community, Rejuvenating Indonesia as a Maritime Nation through Research and Education; Reinventing and Reintroducing the Long-Lost Indonesia’s Maritime Culture to Society and the Youths.

In a lively discussion the participants from different background exchanged ideas how the two objectives of establishing Indonesia´s Maritime Economy as a key Industry and to preserve and nurture Maritime Culture across the country could complement each other.
